70m Project Thunderball Reaches Major Milestones at CRN Ancona Yard

CRN has finalized the hull and superstructure carpentry for the 70-metre Project Thunderball at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona. This entirely bespoke steel and aluminium superyacht is on track for its 2026 launch and delivery.

According to the shipyard, construction is moving forward smoothly. Decorative metal elements are almost in place, and insulation in the wheelhouse and main saloon is now complete. Installation of the yacht’s wooden exterior elements is advancing as scheduled.

Upcoming Stages and Project Collaborators

By July, the interiors of the first guest cabins are expected to be fully completed. The fairing process should wrap up by the end of summer, while painting of the hull will start in September 2025.

The project unites CRN and the Ferretti Group Superyachts Division with Vripack, in charge of naval architecture and exterior styling, and Nauta Design, responsible for the interior. Y.CO acts as the owner’s representative and broker.

Design Features and Layout

Project Thunderball is distinguished by a traditional elongated bow, sleek profile, and lines inspired by sailing yachts, enhanced with flowing bilges and uninterrupted surfaces. The interiors feature classic elements that pay homage to nautical tradition.
Stretching across five decks with a volume of 1,100GT and an 11-metre beam, the yacht offers an owner’s suite plus five VIP cabins to accommodate up to 12 guests, as well as nine crew cabins for up to 15 crew.

Engineering and Environmental Features

The yacht will be equipped with MAN V12-1213kW engines, allowing it to reach speeds up to 16 knots. Emphasis on efficiency includes a peak shaving system that lowers fuel use and enhances onboard energy management. Project Thunderball will also feature a silent mode for anchoring.

CRN’s Current Superyacht Projects

CRN has recently delivered the 67-metre Amor À Vida and is simultaneously undertaking at least two other superyacht builds in addition to Project Thunderball.
