GX34 Yacht Enhances GX Superyachts’ Range of Hybrid and Solar-Powered Models

GX Superyachts has unveiled the GX34, a 111-foot (34-meter) semi-custom yacht that reinforces the brand’s dedication to hybrid propulsion and solar energy utilization. With one unit already in the works, the GX34 adds to the expanding fleet of eco-friendly vessels intended for long-distance cruising with diminished emissions.

Hybrid Power and Solar Generation

Constructed at SES Yachts in Turkey, the GX34 is a part of Greenline Yachts’ move into larger hybrid-powered designs. Owing to constraints at Greenline’s facility in Slovenia, the building of crafts exceeding 78 feet is contracted out. The GX34 showcases a diesel-electric propulsion system that merges twin 200-kW electric motors with twin diesel engines, each delivering around 1,425 horsepower. Various diesel configurations can be selected, offering customization tailored to performance and range desires.

The yacht boasts an 800-kWh battery bank to cater to hotel loads. When outfitted with the optional 46 solar panels incorporated into the hardtop and superstructure, this system can produce up to 30 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy in a year. This arrangement allows the yacht to manage hotel services for as long as 48 hours solely on electric power, with gensets automatically recharging the batteries in less than three hours if required. Furthermore, the electric motors can replenish the battery bank by harnessing waste energy from the diesel engines during cruising.

Performance and Distance

The GX34 presents multiple cruising options. In traditional diesel mode, the yacht can achieve a maximum speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots, depending on the engine configuration selected. In hybrid mode, it can cover an impressive distance of 10,000 nautical miles at 6 knots, making it ideal for extensive journeys with fewer refueling stops and reduced emissions—estimated to be 30 percent lower than similar all-diesel yachts.

Design Choices and Onboard Amenities

The exterior and interior designs are conceived by Marco Casali – Too Design. The GX34 is offered in three setups: Raised Pilot House, Fly, and Coupe. The configuration accommodates up to 10 guests across five staterooms, with the master suite positioned at the front of the main deck. The lower deck features a lounge area that expands to 538 square feet (50 square meters) through fold-out platforms, enhancing the connection to the surroundings.

Owners have the opportunity to personalize the yacht with optional features such as a pool in the beach club zone, a hot tub, bar, and dining area on the flying bridge of the Raised Pilot House version. The swim platform is designed to launch and retrieve a tender up to 15 feet (4.5 meters) in length.
